Give me eyes to see beyond externals, Lord, and then To look beneath the outward smiles, and see the hurts within. Give me ears to hear the cries that come from wounded hearts; To hear the truth when fear would cause someone to play a part. Give me words to soothe and calm the worry, pain, and tears; To let those who are crying out know that Someone hears. Give me a heart that reaches out with no regard to miles; And help me, Lord, replace the tears with peace and joy and smiles. Give me a will to do Thine own no matter what the cost; To lend an ear, to be a friend, to the hurting and the lost. Give me the wisdom and the grace to gently show the way; That others, too, may find in You, the answers when they pray. 9/15/97 © 1997 |
